Václav Klaus

An academic economist by training and a full professor of economics and finance at the Prague University of Economics, Václav Klaus was the first non-Communist Finance Minister of Czechoslovakia (1989–1992). He later served as Prime Minister (1992–1997) and President of the Czech Republic (2003–2013). He currently heads a free-market think tank in Prague, the Václav Klaus Institute, which organizes research projects, seminars, and conferences.


He has published numerous books and has received many honorary doctorates and international awards in various countries. His most recent books in English are Brave New West (2023) and In Defence of Normalcy (2025).


He is founder of the Vaclav Klaus Institute.
